Linkage to human health
For each study, the curators consider whether the paper presents evidence
supporting linkages to human health:
-
Did the study present data supporting an association between exposure
and outcome in the sentinel species?
-
Did the study address comparative susceptibilities to hazards between
species, including between animals and man?
-
Is there evidence of a shared exposure pathway between animals and
humans for the exposure (i.e. were humans also at risk from the same
exposure)?
-
Did the study present data linking animal and human health outcomes?
These considerations are reflected in the following diagram.
Curators also note whether papers present genomic data that would also
help build a linkage between the animal health event and human disease risk.
